Last.fm Now Available on Mobile VoIP and IM service Fring

Mobile VoIP and IM service fring is launching a custom mobile-optimized Last.fm music radio add-on that will enable a music recommendation service to the fring client but also integrates with the latter's social and communication features.

Fring users are now able to listen to streamed music radio channels, including their own Last.fm library, tag favorites, ban disliked tracks, view album artwork and basically take their Last.fm music account mobile. In addition to getting those features into the client, fringsters can also opt to view in real-time what their contacts are currently listening to, with the help of a friends list embedded into the Last.fm add-on.

Yahoo! Added IM and SMS to Classic Mail

Yahoo! team integrated IM and SMS to Yahoo! Mail Classic worldwide. Already a popular feature in the new Yahoo! Mail, Classic Mail users can now instant message or SMS a friend right from the Mail interface.

When you sign into Mail Classic, your IM contact list will appear on the left hand sidebar below your main folder list. Once you click a contact and start a conversation, a window pops up in the lower right corner of your Mail Classic page. The conversation window includes a tabbed interface so you can have multiple conversations at once without cluttering up your Mail page.

Within your contact list window you’ll see two groups: online contacts and mobile contacts. Online contacts are available friends that are in your Mail address book or your existing Yahoo! Messenger list (including Windows Live Messenger contacts). Mobile contacts are friends in your address book for whom you have a mobile phone number. You'll be able to send a free SMS text message to your mobile contacts.

How to Run Skype from Your Flash Disk

Skype doesn't officially offer a portable version of their client, but by moving the application to your thumb drive and creating a data folder for Skype on that drive with a few simple tweaks, Skype runs smoothly and in portable style.

Weblog MakeUseOf details how to set up Skype to run from a USB flash drive so that no matter where you are, you can quickly and easily contact any of your Skype contacts :

"1. The first step is to make the folder on your USB stick where it will all stay. So call it whatever you want. Let’s call it “Portable Skype” for example. But you can give it whatever name you want.

2. Now go to the installed Skype app on your computer (normally located at C:\Program Files\Skype) and look for a file called Skype.exe

Right-click and copy that file. Do not move it anywhere. Just right-click and copy.

3. Now go to the “Portable Skype” folder and insert that copied “Skype.exe” file into the “Portable Skype” folder.

4. In the “Portable Skype” folder, make a new sub-folder called data..."

"I’ve been saying this for almost 4 years now, but alas the topic has come up once again: I hate Microsoft’s Windows Live Messenger Network (a.k.a the Microsoft Network, MSN) and so should you! I’m referring to the protocol, not the client. (The client is just as bad, but I can get by with alternative applications.)

To better explain why, I’m going to spare all the geeky talk for later and use analogies to get my point across first:
