The latest version of Windows Live Messenger 2009 (14.0.8064.0206) is now available for free download.

Over the next month, if you’re still running versions 8.1 or 8.5, you’ll get a prompt encouraging you to upgrade to the latest version of Windows Live Messenger. If you accept the optional upgrade, the installer will launch and start your free upgrade.

Microsoft made some improvements to the latest release so even if you have downloaded Windows Live Messenger 2009 in the past month, you will still receive the upgrade prompt.
