Detect Invisible Users on Google Talk Using a Bug on Gmail Chat

Our reader, Anirudh Mehta, discovered a bug in Google Talk’s invisible status feature available in its Gmail Chat version. If use smartly, you can figure out if the girl next door is really invisible or avoiding you.

Here are steps:

  1. Set the chat as off the record with target user (how?). This can be done only when the other user is online. (need help?)
  2. Now try sending chat to that user when he is invisible or offline.
  3. If he is invisible, then he will receive chat.
  4. But if he Is offline, then you will receive error “username did not receive your chat”.

    i want to kno abt the invisible users on gmail chat withour sending any msg to him/her and without going "off the record". means just a scanner which can detect invisible users. is thr any..???

    you can also find some extra features on the labs version of other Google products which allows you to make yourself invisible but it does not always override the gtalk client software if you have that installed

    YEAH IT IS NOT TRUE THAT.
    I HAVE AN OTHER ACCOUNT ON GMAIL, AND I SENT MESSAGES TO IT (OBVIOUSLY THAT IN THE OTHER ACCOUNT I AM OFFLINE), AND THE MESSAGES WERE RECEIVED TO THE OTHER MAIL, AND DID NOT GET THE RED WARNING SAYING THAT MESSAGE WAS NOT DELIVERED!!

    I THINK THAT METHOD DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE!
