It annoys me how to most people Google Talk = XMPP, when really Google Talk is only one server on the XMPP protocol. At least Google Talk/XMPP or Jabber please...?
You're definetly right but Gtalk is the most popular one.
Google Talk is a network who uses the Jabber protocol. There are many networks who uses this protocol.
